Raleigh Relays Meet Schedule
PHILADELPHIA - Following the season-opening meet at historic Franklin Field, the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team will travel for the first time this outdoor season. In a split weekend, the Quakers will head to Widener and the Raleigh Relays.
Some Quakers will stay in the local area for the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener, while others will head to North Carolina State for the Raleigh Relays. The two-day meet at N.C. State begins Friday at 8:30 a.m. with the steeplechase. The first day concludes with the 10,000 meters at 10:35 p.m. The final day of competition begins at 9:30 a.m. with another section of the 10,000 meters and is set to finish at 4:45 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relays.
Last week, Penn hosted the Philadelphia College Classic. On his first toss as a collegian, freshman Sam Mattis broke the school record in the discus. His first throw measured 57.57 meters (189 feet, 2 inches) - the sixth-best toss in the nation this year and six feet better than a 19-year-old school standard. That peformance sparked plenty of wins on the track, including sophomore Kyle Webster, senior Allante Keels, junior Mason Smith, freshman Drew Magaha, freshman Thomas Awad and junior Jake Brenza.
Last week's Philadelphia College Classic marked the only home meet of the year for the Quakers outside of the world's oldest and largest relay carnival. The 119th edition of the Penn Relays is set for April 25-27 at Franklin Field. Last year, the three-day attendance totaled 117,346. Get your tickets for the 2013 Penn Relays here.
