PHILADELPHIA - Eight members of the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team will travel to compete in the IC4A Indoor Championship meet in Boston, Mass., March 3-4. The Quakers will compete in three individual events and the distance medley relay.

Freshman Tom Timmins will compete first for the Quakers at 2:40 p.m. Saturday in the 500 meters. Timmins qualified for the meet with his time of 1:05.17 in the team's first meet of 2012. If he advances, the finals are set for 1:10 p.m. on Day 2.

The Quakers will also compete in the distance medley relay on Saturday at 4 p.m. Seniors Brian Fulton, Brian Rosenthal and Michael Cunningham are joined by freshman Thomas Tallerico and junior John Foye. The five will combine to make up the teams for the preliminaries and the finals - which are set to start at 2:25 p.m.

Senior Efayomi Carr and sophomore Jake Brenza are set to start Day 2 for the Quakers in the triple jump and shot put, respectively. Both events begin at 11 a.m. Carr reached the postseason meet with a season-best leap of 14.37 meters (47 feet, 1 3/4 inches), while Brenza reached the meet with a career-best throw of 15.10 meters (51-10 ft.) in the first meet of the year.

Last week, sophomore Maalik Reynolds defended his indoor Heps title in the high jump to highlight the 2012 Heptagonal Indoor Championships for Penn. A trio of seniors and the 4x800-meter relay also scored for the Red and Blue as the Quakers finished seventh as a team. Reynolds will be resting an ankle injury this week, but is expected to be a part of the NCAA Championship field in Boise, Idaho, March 9-10.

Reynolds won the IC4A title in the high jump at this meet last year. Then-junior James Finucane posted the fifth-best mile time in school history and the distance medley relay team finished third as Penn placed 14th as a team - its best since finishing 13th in 2004. There were 52 schools that scored at the meet.
