Men's Track Team Finish Strong at Lafayette Rider Winter Games


NEW YORK, N.Y.-The Penn men’s track team finished atop the leader board in multiple events en route to a strong finish on Saturday at the Lafayette Rider Winter Games.

The Quakers tore up the track in the relays, snagging first place finishes in both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays and qualifying for IC4As in both events.

The 4x400 squad finished in 3:17.32, with Kevin Benjamin as the lead-off man while Andrew Anderson ran second, Willie Harris ran third, and Sam Shepherd anchored.

The 4x800 team of John Guzman, Kevin Kiley, Bryan Scotland and Tim Kaijala had a time of 7:48.76.

Kaijala also won the 800 meters with another IC4A-qualifying time of 1:49.62.

Scotland also notched another victory, finishing first in the 1,000 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 2:26.75. Bryan Lang finished fourth in the race in 2:30.42.

Shepherd went on to finish fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.38, while Joey Brown finished fifth in the 60 meter dash in 6.99.

On the field, Kyle Calvo leapt 6.99 meters to fifth place in the long jump.
