Men's Track Wins Three Events, Has Strong Day at Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - The Quaker men's track team won three events and placed high in several others on Saturday at the Penn Invitational at Franklin Field. Leading the pack was Mark Materna, who clocked in at 3:56.11 to win the 1,500 for the Red and Blue.

Mike LaQuaglia claimed first place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:43.71, while the Quakers' 4x100 relay squad earned a victory in their event, clocking in at 42.02.

David Whitehurst placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.84, while Sam Shepherd ran a 49.24 in the 400 to finish second.

Jason Ellis notched another second-place finish for the Quakers with a 11.23 in the 100-meter dash.

In the field events, Anthony Abitante placed secondby clearing4.73 meters in the pole vault, while Michael Daley finished third in the long jump at 6.15 meters.

Penn will compete against Ivy League rival Princeton, along with Villanova and Rutgers, in its next meet Saturday in Princeton, N.J.
