PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's and women's swimming and diving teams will begin the new year in Boca Raton, Fla., when the Quakers compete in a six-team meet hosted by Florida Atlantic University on Jan. 3. One of the teams in attendance will be Ivy League opponent, Brown and the meet will count in the Ivy schedule.
Last season, the Quakers swam against Brown at the FAU Invitational as well - the women edged the Bears 166-134, while the men's team fell, 185-113.
This is the first meet since the Nike Invitationalin earlyDecember and the Red and Blue are looking to continue the success the teams have had in the earlier part of the season.
At the Nike Invite, the men's team finished in second place and Brendan McHugh was named co-swimmer of the meet. The women placed fourth, while Stephanie Nerby broke the Kenyon pool record in the 500 freestyle.
The men's team currently posts a 1-2 record with a win against Cornell (189-111), while falling to Columbia (170-128) and Princeton (175-125).
The women's team is also 1-2, with a commanding win against Cornell (205.5-94.5) at the Princeton Invitational. The Quakers two losses were at the hands of Columbia (159-141) and Princeton (175-117). The Columbia meet came down to the last race and it was the visiting Lions who were able to take first to clinch the win.
