CAMBRIDGE, Mass - The Penn men's swimming and divingteam is ranked eighth, while the women's team is 12th after the first day of the ECAC Championships. Day one of the meet included six events for both teams.
The men’s team received 51 points to finish eighth on the first day of the three day event. The 200 freestyle relay team, in the first event of the finals, placed 12th to collect the Quakers first points of the meet. In the 500 freestyle, Alex Kalish finished fourth, the highest finish of a Penn swimmer thus far, to add 15 more points for Penn. Kyle Yeager added four points for Penn by finishing 13th in the 200 IM. Day one of the meet finished with the 400 medley relay, where the Quakers placed eighth.
On the women’s side, Penn ended day one in 12th place with 34 points. In the first event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay, the Quakers took 16th place. In the 500 free, Nicole Malgeri and Genevieve Fleming swam to an eighth and 10th place finish, respectively. Lauren Brandes took eighth in the 50 free to close out day one in Cambridge.
