Messaros Joins Field Hockey Coaching Staff

PHILADELPHIA - Liz Messaros, an accomplished collegiate player and club coach, has joined the field hockey staff as an assistant coach beginning with the 2016 season. Messaros will work with the goalkeepers and defensive unit in her first year on the University of Pennsylvania sidelines.

A native of Oxford, Pa. and a 2012 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University, Messaros continues the Big 5 lineage of coaches on the current Red and Blue staff, joining Colleen Fink and Katelyn O’Brien as Hawk graduates. During her senior year in Merion Station, Messaros notched 77 saves as the starting goalkeeper which included two shutouts and a 2.72 goals against average. She also made three consecutive Atlantic-10 tournament appearances during her time with the Hawks.

In addition to her current duties on the Quaker sidelines, Messaros also serves as the goalkeeping director for Horizon Field Hockey club for both indoor and outdoor seasons. Her tutelage has led numerous athletes to USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournaments and Festival appearances in addition to helping advance players individual skill sets for elite teams. 

Messaros began her coaching career with Viper Field Hockey from 2008-14 where she served as the head goalkeeper and U-16 coach. While with Viper, Messaros led her athletes to four USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournaments and four Festival appearances in addition to setting a cohesive goalkeeper training program throughout the club for all age groups ranging from U-12 to U-19.

Messaros also serves as the social media and on-site tournament manager for Her Game Field Hockey and Training Center, where she coaches individual and group skill sessions and sponsors tournaments throughout the Northeast region.

A 2012 graduate of Saint Joseph’s, Messaros earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing and currently works full-time as an Account Executive with Aramark.
