AKRON, Ohio – Micah Burak, C’13 will represent the United States at the 2013 University World Championships at 96 kg. after a dominating run to the championship at the ASICS University National Championships in Akron.
Burak won five matches to reach the championships series, four by technical fall. In the final, he defeated a familiar foe – Dustin Kilgore – in a best of three series, 2-0, to qualify for Team USA which will compete in Kazan, Russia this July 10-16. Burak had met Kilgore twice in collegiate competition defeating the eventual national champion in 2010 before losing this March in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Des Moines. Kilgore would go on to finish as runner up at NCAAs.
Burak also qualified for the Senior World Team Trials which will take place in Stillwater, Okla. June 20-23. Rollie Peterkin, W’11 has also qualified for the World Team Trials after winning the Northeast Regional at 66kg earlier this month. Former Penn assistant coach Kyle Cerminara will be in the field with Burak at 96kg via his win at the Northeast Regional.
