Nalitt Family Center Dedication is Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics program is preparing for a very gratifying Homecoming 2013. On Saturday, November 9, past and present members of the program will gather at 3 p.m. in Hutchinson Gymnasium for the formal unveiling and dedication of the Nalitt Family Gymnastics Center.

The state-of-the-art training facility is part of the newly renovated Hutchinson Gymnasium and features space forfour balance beams, two vaulting runways, three sets of uneven bars, a trench-channel single bar, the floor exercise anda tumbling strip. Additionally, the facility boasts loose foam training pits, as well as in-ground rezi pits, to allow athletes to work on elements for all events. The gymnastics program will use the new John R. Rockwell Gymnasium, also located in Hutchinson Gymnasium, for home meets.

The new training facility is possible as the result of a generous gift from former Penn gymnast Beth Nalitt (Wasserstein) MD, and her family. Dr. Nalitt was a member of the Quakers gymnastics team from 1976-79 and now operates her own private practice in Millburn, New Jersey.

The dedication on Saturday will be followed by a presentation of the Quakers’ 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference championship rings. Penn has now won back-to-back ECAC conference championships, along with winning the Ivy League title in 2012.

Prior to the dedication, current team members, coaches, and seniors from the 2013 season will be honored for the ECAC championship during halftime of the football game featuring Penn against Princeton at Franklin Field.
