PHILADELPHIA--Senior Monica Naltner’s show-stopping 37-point performance against Lafayette earned her Player of the Week recognition from the Big 5 and Co-Player of the Weekstatus from the Ivy League, Monday.
A forward, Naltner’s impressive game at Lafayette tied Penn’s sixth most points in a game and was just six shy of setting a new record. Her effort helped snap the Quakers’ three-game losing streak with a 78-74 win over the Leopards.
Naltner also led the Red and Blue with 16 points against American on Sunday. She leads Penn (3-4) with 155 points and 52 rebounds. Naltner was named the League’s Player of the Week earlier this season as well. This is Natlner's first Big 5 honor of the season.
Naltner shared the honor with Dartmouth senior guard Ashley Taylor who scored a career-high 26 points in a 73-67 overtime win at Northeastern. Her well-rounded effort also included seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. She took over the game in the second half to spur the team to a nine-point comeback and scored six of her points in overtime. In addition, Taylor scored her 1,000th career point during the win.
Naltner and the Quakers are back in action at The Palestra Dec. 21 to take on neighboring Drexel. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
