NCAA Fencing Update: Day One

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--After Day One at the NCAA Fencing Championships, Penn has 38 points good for fifth place. The men rotated through the first 14bouts of the 23-bout round robin.

In sabre, Jon Berkowsky won nine bouts and Andrew Bielen tooksix. Those marks put them in ninth and 15th-place, respectively with nine bouts to complete tomorrow.

In foil, freshman Vidur Kapur won seven boutsand classmateZane Grodman has six. Both enjoyed a late surge. Grodman won his last four bouts and Kapur took three of his last four.

For epee, Ben Wiedertook 10wins and is in fifth place.
