PHILADELPHIA – Since taking over on July 1 as the University of Pennsylvania’s new Director of Athletics and Recreation, Dr. M. Grace Calhoun has been busy getting to know her staff and her coaches during these first few weeks on campus.
On July 17, though, she made time to receive a special visitor as University President Amy Gutmann came to Weightman Hall to officially welcome Calhoun to the Penn family. Gutmann presented gifts to Calhoun as well as executive assistant Erica Hildenbrand, then took a walk out to Franklin Field with Calhoun to soak in a picture-perfect day.
“I really appreciate President Gutmann taking time out of her extremely busy schedule to come visit us in our offices,” said Calhoun. “I am looking forward to establishing a solid relationship with her as well as the rest of the University’s administration, I firmly believe that these relationships will play a major role in the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics’ success in the coming years.
“I am learning new things about the great people in this department and on this campus every day,” she continued. “The more I learn, and the more people I meet, the more I continue to get excited about this job and what I think Penn Athletics can do to generate school spirit on this campus for students, alums, faculty and staff.”
