No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Closes Out Ivy Season With 8-6 Win Over Brown

Providence, R.I. - The No. 15 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team defeated Brown, 8-6, on Stevenson Field to close out its 2005 Ivy League campaign. The Quakers finished Ivy play with a 4-3 record and have an overall record of 7-7 on the season. Junior Emily Cochran led Penn on the offensive front, collecting three goals in the win.

Senior Allie Juras, in her final Ancient Eight contest, got things started for the Red and Blue, scoring Penn's first goal of the game off of a pass from Rachel Manson 4:37 into the first half. Senior Ali Ryan then collected her 20th goal of the season 11:46 into the half, unassisted, to give Penn the 2-1 lead. Brown (3-9, 1-4 Ivy)then scored two quick goals to tie the score at two all. Cochran scored her first goal of the game 19:06 into play to give the Quakers back the scoring advantage. She was unassisted on the play. Kaitlin Farmer scored on a free position shot at the 21:45 mark for her first collegiate goal. Allison Ambrozy wrapped up Penn's offense in the first half, scoring 25:36 in. Penn took a 6-4 lead into the break.

Both teams each scored twice in the second stanza, with Brown opening and closing the offensive drives. Cochran scored both of the Quakers goals in the second half, collecting her first 15:27 into play and completing the hat trick at 16:03. The Quakers outshot the Bears, 31-17.

In the net, Sarah Waxman earned her first career start for the Quakers. The freshman had six saves while facing 17 shots in the entire 60 minutes of play. Julia Southard had 13 saves while facing 31 shots for Brown.

Brown was led offensively by Amie Biros and Sarah Passano, who each had two goals.

The Quakers are next in action on Sunday, May8 when they will travel to Rutgers for a 1 p.m. start. The game will wrap up Penn's season.
