Annapolis, Md. The 23rd-ranked University of Pennsylvaniawrestling teamwill send four grapplers to the 2005 NCAA Championships March 17-19 in St. Louis, Mo.
Two-time All-American Matt Feast (Cressona, Pa./Blue Mountain) will make his third NCAA Championship appearance. He received an automatic bid after capturing his third-consecutive heavyweight title at the 101st EIWA Championships. Last season at NCAAs, Feast finished in fifth place in the heavyweight bracket. With 113 career victories, Feast, ranked sixth in the nation, stands third on Penn’s career victories list and could potentially eclipse Yoshi Nakamura’s mark of 115 wins during NCAA competition.
Junior Dustin Wiles (Farmington, Mo./Farmington) earned one of 12 wild card berths after an impressive performance during his first-ever EIWA Championship. Wiles placed fifth overall at 174 lbs. going 4-2, including three pins. Wiles, who earned a 25-11 overall record this season, leads the Quakers with seven falls and 69 takedowns.
Sixteenth-ranked Doug McGraw (Emporium, Pa./Cameron County) was also a recipient of a wild card berth after his fifth place finish at 141 lbs. The Penn co-captain earned a 12-4 overall record and will compete in his third-consecutive NCAA Championships.
After nearly two years away from the mats, senior Mason Lenhard (Parma, Ohio/St. Edwards) will make his third appearance in the NCAA Championships. Lenhard placed fourth at 141 lbs. at the EIWA Championships to earn a wild card berth. Lenhard posted a 13-12 overall record during the season.
