No. 25 Grapplers Takes Second at Oklahoma Brockport Gold; Valenti Wins at 133

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Senior captain Matt Valenti captured the 133 lbs weight class at the Oklahoma Brockport Gold on Saturday afternoon, leading the No. 25Quakers to a second-place showing. Ten other Quakers finished in the top-six in their respective weight class, including freshman Cesar Grajales to took second at 141 lb.

Valenti defeated Albert Madsen of Ohio, 7-1,to take the top spot at 133 lbs. The junior met up with teammate Matt Eveleth in the semifinals and beat him, 2-0. Eveleth went on to take fourth place. Freshman Cesar Grajeles put up a solid performance in his collegiate debut. He met up with NCAAChampionTeyon Ware of Oklahoma in the finals of 141 lbs. and fell 4-1 in the match.

Sophomore Lior Zamir defeated Aaron Miller of Kent State, 4-2 to take third at 157 lbs., while senior Paul Velekei placed third at 197 lbs. after decisioning Joe Denis of Cleveland State, 3-2. Taking the fourth for the Red and Blue were sophomoreAndrew Gold at 125 lbs., freshman Matt Dragon at 149 lbs., sophomoreJeff Zanetti at 157 lbs., and senior Dustin Wiles at 184 lbs. Senior Richard Ferguson was fifth at 165 lbs. and sophomore Rob Hitschler was sixth at 149 lbs.

No. 2 Oklahoma won the meet with 171 points, followed by the Quakers with 166. Army was third with 133 points, while Kent State was fourth with 130.5 and Buffalo was fifth with 119.

The Quakers are back in action when they host the 11th Annual Keystone Classic on Sunday, November 21 at The Palesta.
