No. 25 Penn Wrestling Downs Harvard, 28-15

Philadelphia – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team improved earned its 15th-straight victory over Harvard with a 28-15 win this afternoon during in a special midday match-up at The Palestra. The No. 25 Red and Blue improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League.

Senior Matt Feast (21-3, 5-1 dual) got things started at heavyweight by a 4-3 decision over No. 7 Bode Ogunwole in two rounds of overtime. The bout started with a scoreless first period but Ogunwole broke the stalemate at the beginning of the second period with an escape. Feast tied the score 1-1 with 1:40 remaining in the bout with an escape of his own. In overtime, Ogunwole took a 2-1 lead with an escape, but Feast countered by escaping. Again Ogunwole pulled ahead on an escape in the third tiebreaker, Ogunwole allowed Feast to earn back the point escape to open the fourth tiebreaker. With the match deadlocked at 3-3, Feast was a awarded the victory because he had 34 seconds of riding time in his favor.

At 133, junior Mike Silengo improved to 2-0 in duals and 11-7 overall with a 19-5 technical fall against Brent Kakesako. Just 15 seconds into the match, Silengo set the tone by posting a takedown. He added six near fall points in the 1:30 of the first period. Silengo continued the trend into the second period adding five points and secured the victory with five additional points in the final period.

Rookie Zach Shanaman recorded a takedown early in the first period and never looked back as he notched an 11-2 major decision against Matt Button at 157 lbs. The win marked Shanaman’s first collegiate dual victory.

At 165, senior Rich Ferguson blanked the Crimson’s Nick Pacarsic with a 13-0 major decision. Sophomore Dan Gallagher wrestled tough against Eddie Jones but was edged 2-1 after Jones was awarded a riding time point.

The Quakers will continue the midday match-up as they face Franklin & Marshall at approximately 2p.m.
