PHILADELPHIA The No. 2 Penn women’s squash team wrapped up its opening weekend on Sunday afternoon with a win over No. 6 Stanford, 7-2. The Quakers finished the weekend, 3-0, with the other two defeats coming on Saturday against Cornell (7-2) and Middlebury (9-0).
The Red and Blue swept the top seven matches. Kristen Lange at the No. 1 spot and Sydney Scott at the No. 2 swept their opponents in three games. Britt Hebden and Christina Matthias took their matches into four games. Hebden, who played Kathryn Corelli, dropped her first game, but fought back to sweep three straight. Matthias got out to an early 2-0 lead against Aditi Mailwai, but lost the third match before sealing the win in the fourth game.
In addition, Alisha Turner, Annie Madeira and Tara Chawla notched wins in three short games in matches five through six.
The Red and Blue are back on the courts in two weeks when they head to New England for the weekend to play Yale on Dec. 6 and Brown on Dec. 7 both crucial Ivy matchups.
