PHILADELPHIA - No. 4 Penn is off to a 5-0 start overall in 2011 with a 1-0 beginning to the Ivy League season. On Saturday afternoon, the Red and Blue host Yale at noon as part of Alumni Weekend for the lacrosse programs.
The Quakers are 15-18-1 in 34 all-time meetings with Yale and have won six in a row against the Bulldogs. Last season, Penn won on the road in New Haven, 7-5, scoring six times in the second half to erase a 2-1 halftime deficit. Ali DeLuca, Giulia Giordano and Bridget Waclawik each had two goals in the win.
Yale is 1-4 overall this season, with an 11-8 win over Marist on March 12 finally getting the Bulldogs in the win column. Yale had lost four in a row to start the season, including a 9-8 loss to Dartmouth in its only Ivy game of the season to date.
Yale has had trouble keeping opponents off the scoresheet, allowing 56 goals in five games while scoring just 33. Penn, on the other hand, has allowed a stingy 34 goals in five games while scoring 48 times.
Erin Brennan leads the way for Penn with seven goals and five assists while Giulia Giordano is right behind with a team-high nine goals and 11 total points. Caroline Bunting has scored eight goals and has 10 points to round out Penn's three double-digit scorers. Caroline Crow paces the Bulldogs with 11 points on nine goals and two assists, while Devon Rhodes has eight goals and a pair of helpers and leads Yale with 12 draw controls.
