PHILADELPHIA The Penn No. 7 men’s squash team is set for its first matches of 2009 as it takes on No. 15 Amherst and No. 10 Williams on Saturday. The Quakers post a 3-2 record and through the three wins have only gave up a two games defeating Middlebury (8-1), Navy (9-0) and Brown (8-1). The two losses were to the dominate Yale team and Cornell.
In Penn’s last outing the Quakers downed the Brown Bears by an 8-1 margin on Dec. 7 to head into winter break and the team is looking to carry its success through the New Year.
The first match of the day will pit Penn against the Amherst Lord Jeffs, whom are 3-4 after losing the last three matches including a 9-0 decision to Yale and Dartmouth. The second and final match of the day will put Penn and Williams on the court together. The Ephs are 4-4 overall but retain a 4-1 league record and have played three matches since the start of 2009. Last season, the Quakers defeated both teams, downing the Amherst, 8-1, and Williams, 6-3.
The match-up between Penn and Amherst is set for 11 a.m. and the afternoon contest against Williams will begin at 4 p.m. all matches taking place at Penn’s Ringe Courts.
