PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's fencing team faces its biggest challenge of the season when the Quakers take on defending national champion Penn State as part of the Penn State Duals on Saturday.
The top ranked Nittany Lions are one of three confirmed matchups for the Red and Blue tomorrow, with Johns Hopkins and Haverford being the other two. Last season the Quakers lost a 21-6 match to Penn State, dropping all three weapons in the process.
Penn enters the weekend with a 4-2 mark overall, with its only losses coming to fifth ranked Northwestern and seventh ranked Temple. At the Penn Invitational, the Quakers were led by epee, who recorded a perfect 6-0 mark. Sophomore Stephanie Wheeler had the best record of anyepee fencer, going 11-1, while freshman Amrit Bhinder went 9-3.
In sabre, the Red and Blue posted a 4-2 record with captain Danielle Kamis leading the way. Kamis went 14-4, while sophomore Dominika Franciszkowicz was close behind her with a 12-3 mark. Foil went 3-3 two weeks ago as Laura Paragano went 10-8, while freshman Aida Abdikulova won eight bouts.
