PHILADELPHIA - For the third straight week, freshman Michelle Nwokedi earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday. She is a co-recipient of the award this week after she helped the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team to a pair of Ivy League wins.
Nwokedi had a double-double and averaged 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Quakers. Penn completed a season sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth for the first time since 2001.
Nwokedi had 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in addition to two blocks to lead Penn past the Crimson, 71-61, on Friday. The following night, Nwokedi added nine points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals as the Quakers beat the Big Green, 63-46.
This is the fifth Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor for Nwokedi, who has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games. She also garnered the award on Dec. 1, Jan. 26, Feb. 9 and Feb. 16. In addition,the St. Agnes Academy producthas been named ECAC South Co-Rookie of the Week on three occasions (Dec. 1, Feb. 9, Feb. 16).
Nwokedi and the Quakersremain in Philadelphia for two more home games this weekend. The Quakers host Brown on Friday and Yale on Saturday at The Palestra. The game against Yale will also mark Senior Day for four Penn seniors.
