PHILADELPHIA -After a monumental weekend for the University of Pennsylvania men's squash team, Harrow Sports has honored Tyler Odell as the Squash Player of the Week.
Odell went 4-0 over the last two weeks, including 2-0 last weekend to seal upset victories over No. 4 Rochester and No. 3 St. Lawrence. The senior was the last man on the court in both contests, and closed out five-game wins in each match.
Against Rochester, Odell was one of two Penn players left and the Quakers needing just one to earn the marquee win. Max Reed completed his match first for the deciding fifth point, but Odell finished off his opponent minutes later for a 6-3 Penn win.
On Sunday, it would all fall of the shoulders of Odell. With the match tied at four, he went into a fifth set against Julian Jervis of St. Lawrence. Odell saw fans and teammates crowd around the glass at the Ringe Courts, telling him that the match came down to him. With the pressure on, the captain outworked Jervis to an 11-7 win, closing out back-to-back wins over top five opponents.
Odell is the first Penn men's squash player to earn the honor since Jack Maine in January of 2014.
The Quakers must wait until January 9 to take the court again. They will do so against back-to-back Ivy League champions, Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.
