Oklahoma State Beats Men's Tennis, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA – The men’s tennis team fell in their last match of spring break to No. 10 Oklahoma State, 5-2.

The Cowboys clinched the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 spots. Daniel Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov beat Jason Pinsky and Eric Riley in the No. 1 spot, 8-1, while Artsem Burmistrau and Nathan Byrnes beat Joseph Lok and Jonathan Boym 8-4 in the No. 2 spot. Brandon O'Gara and Justin Fox had a big win over Ivan Puchkarov and Dmytro Petrov in the No. 3 spot, beating them 8-6.

In singles action, Penn lost in the Nos. 4, 1 and 3 singles spot, clinching the win for OSU. At No. 4, sophomore Justin Fox lost to Petrov, 6-1, 6-2, while Pinsky lost to Nedovyesov, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. And Joseph Lok lost to No. 17 Puchkarov at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4. Brandon O'Gara had a tough loss in the No. 6 spot to Burmistrau after winning the first set, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Sophomore Jonathan Boym had an upset win in the No. 2 singles spot, as he beat No. 105 Daniel Byrnes, 7-6(4), 6-2. Freshman Adam Schwartz had Penn’s only other singles win in the No. 5 spot, as he beat Nathan Byrnes, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.

With the loss, Penn fell to 4-10 overall. Up next, the Quakers will travel to Michigan on March 18, for a noon match.
