PHILADELPHIA – After a successful team effort during the Big 5 Invitational, the University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s cross country teams are ready for the next meet of the season – Haverford’s Main Line Invitational. The Quakers stay local one final time as the race is set for Thursday at 5 p.m. The women will race first, and the men will follow.
Having competed in this event last year and trained at Haverford this year, the Red and Blue are familiar with the mile-loop course.
At the Big 5 Invitational, both the men and women teams executed their race plans – to run as a pack – to a T. The women took the top five spots, scoring 15 points, for a first place finish; the men took the top seven spots and also scored 15 points for first place.
Penn will take the next step in its training for this meet. Instead of racing conservatively and in a pack, the Quakers will be encouraged to race more aggressively and start at their usual race pace.
The Red and Blue will once again compete with Big 5 rivals Villanova, La Salle, and Saint Joe’s, as well as Lehigh, Swarthmore, Widener, and host Haverford.
