PHILADELPHIA - Once again, the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team will head south to North Carolina for their first outdoor meet of the season. The 2010 campaign will begin in Winston-Salem, N.C., with the Wake Forest Open on Friday and Saturday.

The Wake Forest Open will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday with the high jump. The final field event on day one, the shot put, begins at 4:30 p.m. The track events run from 1 p.m., with the 110-meter hurdles, to 8:40 p.m., with the 10,000 meters. Saturday’s action starts with the pole vault at 9 a.m., and runs through 5:45 p.m. with the 4x400 relay.

At this same meet last season, the Quakers opened the season with 14 members of the Red and Blue placing in the top 10. It was also the first meet of last year's outdoor season with two Quakers reaching the IC4A qualifying mark, which included John Carelli's runner-up performance in the triple jump.

Penn enters the outdoor season after an indoor campaign that saw 11 Quakers reach IC4A qualifying marks, freshman Tim Carey earn first-team All-Ivy honors with a heptagonal title in the 60-meter hurdles, and four members of the Red and Blue enter the all-time school record books in a total of seven different events.

A complete recap from the Wake Forest Open will be available on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the meet on Saturday.
