PHILADELPHIA – A pair of former EIWA champions for Penn will compete at the 2013 USA Wrestling World Team Trials this weekend in Stillwater, Okla. for a spot on Team USA at the upcoming World Championships. Rollie Peterkin, W’11 and Micah Burak C’13 both earned entry into the field via wins in qualifying tournaments recently.

Burak, an NCAA All-American at 197 pounds in 2012 and EIWA champion at 197 this past March, won the USA Wrestling World University Games Team Trials at 96kg/211.5 pounds in Akron, Ohio on May 26 to not only qualify for the World University Games in Kazan, Russia this July but to earn an invite to the Senior World Team Trials this weekend. In the championship match in Akron, he defeated former NCAA champion Dustin Kilgore – who is ranked No. 9 in the U.S. Freestyle rankings. Kilgore had previously defeated Burak in the quarterfinals of the 2013 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Peterkin, who had been ranked inside the Top 10 at 55kg/121 pounds during his collegiate career, has been living in New York City and training with the NYAC while working on Wall Street at RBC. Earlier in May, Peterkin won the 66kg/145.5 pound weight class at the Northeast Regional to earn an automatic entry to the World Team Trials.

The Trials begin June 21 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater on the campus of Oklahoma State University. Burak will take the mats on Friday, while Peterkin will wrestle on Saturday.
