PHILADELPHIA --On August 24, over 2,500 new students were welcomed to the Penn Athletics family as part of the NSO Picnic at Penn Park. Student-athletes and coaches from every Penn Athletics program met with the newest members of the Quakers family, celebrating their arrival to Penn as the new students crossed the Paley Bridge into Penn Park.
As the members of the freshmen class have convened as a group for decades before the first home football game -- forming a spirit tunnel for the football team to charge through onto Franklin Field -- student-athletes and coaches cheered on the newest generation of Penn students as they gathered together for the annual class photo.
In addition, members of the Class of 2019 were able to take photos with two Penn icons -- our beloved mascot, Quaker, and the Heisman Trophy -- named after Penn football legend John Heisman.
The event was truly a team effort -- Penn Traditions co-sponsored the Class of 2019 t-shirt provided to all students, Penn Dining catered the meal, the Red and Blue Crew distributed the Penn picnic mats to all students, and the Penn Band and Penn Cheer squads were responsible for organizing the students into the '2019' for their photo.
Members from many of Penn's club sports programs were also at the NSO Picnic, recruiting potential new teammates.
