PHILADELPHIA --On Tuesday, December 1st,the Penn Champions Club is participating in the nationwide Giving Tuesday campaign to raise funds for each of the University’s varsity athletic programs. Alumni and supporters are encouraged to make a donation to the athletic program(s) of their choice via www.PennChampionsClub.com/GivingTuesday in honor of the Red & Blue. Upon making a financial gift, supporters are asked to share what sets their Penn experience apart from the rest on Twitter utilizing #IAmTheRedandBlue. The 2015 Giving Tuesday goal is $25,000 total across all varsity athletic programs.
At the conclusion of the 24 hour giving challenge, the program that raises the highest percentage of their annual fund goal will be declared the Giving Tuesday winner. Updates will be provided throughout the day via emails and Twitter (@PennChampions). All Penn Athletics alumni, fans and parents are invited to participate and propel their program(s) to victory.
“The Quaker experience holds a different meaning for everyone, regardless of the role they play in the Penn Athletics family,” notes Executive Director of the Penn Champions Club, Scarlett Schneider, “Our goal for this 24-hour giving challenge is to raise awareness of how truly extraordinary Penn Athletics alumni and supporters are, and how Quakers around the world are unified by the Red & Blue.”
Each year, on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday is celebrated by non-profits across the country to encourage philanthropists to give back during the holiday season. In 2014, generous supporters led the Penn Champions Club to raise over $20,000 total across all varsity athletic programs in 24 hours.
