Philadelphia, Pa. -- The University of Pennyslvania Women's Tennis team concluded play in their third day as the hosts of the Wilson/ITAEastern Regional Tennis Championships.
In singles action, freshman Julia Koulbitskaya defeated Olga Borisova of VCU, 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. Fellow freshman Yulia Rivelis also defeated her first opponent of the day, Megan Muth of William and Mary, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance. However, both fell to top ranked opponents in the quarterfinals. Koulbitskaya was defeated by No. 3 seed Courtney Bergmna of Harvard, and Rivelis lost to No. 6 seed Susanna Lingman, also of Harvard.
In doubles action, the team of Koulbitskaya and freshman Michelle Mitchell lost to No. 2 seed But/Baker of Maryland, 8-6 in the quarterfinals.
The semi finals and finals of singles and the final round of doubles will be contested on Tuesday. .
