Philadelphia,Pa. -- The University of Pennyslvania Women's Tennis team completed theirsecond dayas the hosts of the Wilson/ITAEastern Regional Tennis Championships.
In singles action, freshman Janet Comenos lost to No. 1 seed Ramona But of Maryland, 6-1, 6-2. Fellow freshman Michelle Mitchell lost to Preethi Mukundan of Harvard, while junior Caroline Stanislawski lost to Courtney Bergman of Harvard, 6-2, 6-0. Junior Raluca Ciochina lost to Amy Wei of William and Mary, 6-3, 0-6, 6-1. Freshman Julia Koulbitskaya defeated Kristen Dunbar of William and Mary, 7-5, 6-2 in the round of 64 and defeated Michelle Spiess of UMass in the round of 32, 6-3, 6-1. Fellow freshman Yulia Rivelis defeated Kendall Swenson of George Washington, 6-1, 6-2 and defeated Veronika Subertova of Maryland, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the round of 16. Senior Shelah Chao defeated Katelyn Brevard of Penn State, 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 64 and then lost in the round of 32 to Celia Durkin of Harvard, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action, the team of Rivelis/Chao lost to Muth/Wei of William and Mary, 8-2 while the team of Koulbitskaya/Mitchell defeated Pereira/Del Priore of Virginia, 9-8 (3) to advance.
The fourth round of singles and thefourth round of doubles will take place on Monday. The Wilson/ITA Eastern Regional continues until Tuesday.
