Philadelphia, Pa. The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team defeated Columbia, 3-0, this evening. Junior Michelle Kauffman and senior Lynzy Caton led all players with 10 kills in the match.
"The team executed the game plan very well," said Head Coach Kerry Major Carr. "I mixed up the lineup a little bit, and the team was able to stay focused on the goals and play well to prepare for the next match."
The Quakers (9-7, 3-3) won the first game, 30-20 and the second game 30-16 beforeclosing outthe Lions 2-17, 0-7) in the third game, 30-21.
In additon to the play of Kauffman and Caton, junior Cara Thomason contributednine kills, six service aces and 15 digs in the victory. Ivy League Rookie of the Week, freshman Laura Black, had nine kills, two service aces, two digs and two total blocks for the Red and Blue. Fellow freshman Linda Zhang chipped in five kills, along with 35 assists and ten digs, in the win.Sophomore Meredith Damore had 17 digs to lead the Quakers.
Sophomore Nikki Learned and freshmen Cassie Ligh and Natalie Gerling each had eight kills for Columbia.
The Quakers are next in action onSaturday, Oct. 23, when they play at Cornell at4 p.m.
