Penn Distance Runners Kickoff 111th Penn Relays for the Red and Blue

Philadelphia - The University of Pennsylvania men’s track and field team opened the 2005 Penn Relays with several strong performances in the distance events.

Four Quakers competed in the 5,000m at the 111th running of the event. Ian Foley was the first Red and Blue to cross the finish line in 27th place and 15:00. 02, followed closely by Matt Van Antwerp in 28th place. Van Antwerp finished in the same time. Breton Bonnette placed 32nd and crossed the finish line in a time of 15:19.51, while teammate Reid McEwen ran a time of 15:32.31.

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Brady Fergusson and Alejandro Shepard and finished in 17th and 19th place. Fergusson finished in 9:37.45 39, while Shepard crossed the finish in 10:00.56. Freshman Michael Cassidy competed in the 10,000m and finsihed 30th with a time of 31:10.51.

The Quakers will return to action on Friday, April 29 at the 2005 Pen Relays.
