Penn Falls to Navy, 140.5-100.5

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team lost at Navy Saturday, 140.5 – 100.5. The Quakers won five events on the day, led by Matt Blaszko’s victories in the 800-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle.

Blaszko (8:28.70) won the800, followed by teammate Neville Mitchell (8:33.94). Penn’s next victory came in the 200 butterfly by Pat Maloney (2:06.65). Blaszko (4:07.64) then picked up his second victory in the 400 freestyle, whileDevon Carr finished second at 4:08.47.

The Quakers won the final two events, the 200 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay. Yuchi Zhang (2:24.13) won the breaststroke. The Red and Blue took the top three spots in the relay. Chris Weitkamp, Tim Howett, Kevin Scott, and Carr placed first with a time of 3:35.59. Coming in second were John Gillette, Robert Casey, Steve Martucci and T.J. Hutter at 3:41.61.

Penn will be in action again Friday, Feb. 3 hosting West Chester at 3 p.m.
