Philadelphia, Pa. - Penn baseball gives up a pair of runs in the second and third innings and allow a fifth tally in the sixth in the Red and Blue's 5-2 loss to Temple in the home opener at Murphy field on Wednesday.
Temple's (5-6) Dan Brady recorded a pair of RBI with a single in the second inning to put the Owls ahead of Penn (0-9) 2-0 early. A lead off double by Marc Wagner followed by a single from Jason Connor started the Owls' two-run third inning.Wagner scored a second run in the sixth inning on a Mike Weckenman double.
Despite not allowing one Temple batter more than a single hit, Penn could not overcome six hit batsmen and four wild pitches. The Quakers scored their first run in the seventh when Sean Abate, who had reached on a walk, scored from third on a wild pitch. The Red and Blue added a second run in the bottom of the ninth when Bryan Graves drove in Matt Horn with a double to right-center field. Horn also recorded a double in the inning.
Penn hosts Hartford at Murphy Field this weekend with double-headers on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon on both days.
