Penn Field Hockey Announces Class of 2010

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania Head Coach of Field Hockey, Val Cloud, has announced the incoming class for her program. A total of eight newcomers will grace the Quakers roster in 2006, headlined by Virginia transfer Margaretha Ehret and including seven freshmen.

"The Class of 2010 appears to be the strongest class ever for Penn field hockey," said Cloud, who is entering her 12th season. "Seeing and knowing of their individual and team accomplishments is quite impressive-we have players who have been state champions and High School All-Americans. Some will make an immediate impact to our future success. Also, Virginia transfer and Philadelphia native Margaretha Ehret is now a Quaker and expected to make an immediate impact on the field with her collegiate playing experience. With the addition of our newcomers, and the strength of our returning team, the outlook for Penn field hockey looks good."

Ehret, who played her high school field hockey at Penn Charter, joins the Quakers after a year at the University of Virginia. In addition, Cloud welcomes Katie Burke (Blue Bell, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy), Katie Moran (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton), Stephanie Ragg (Rydal, Pa./Penn Charter), Katie Rose (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Kelsey Tahan (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), Lucy Voorhees (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Sarah Warner (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy). Rose joins her sister, Meghan, on the Penn squad.

The Quakers -- who went 9-8 last year including a 3-4 mark in the Ivy League -- will begin their season Sept. 2-3 by playing Syracuse and Ohio State in a tournament being hosted by the University of Delaware.
