PHILADELPHIA - It was a long night for the Red and Blue in University Park, Pa., as they faced off against the nationally ranked Nittany Lions of Penn State, and lost 3-0.
Penn State's offense was a force to be reckoned with, as they took 12 shots in 70 minutes of play. Their defense also did well, holding the Quakers to just two shots all night. Sophomore Margaretha Ehret and junior Melissa Black had Penn's only shots on net in the loss.
Penn State's first goal came in the last minute of the first half, as Shaun Banta scored off a penalty corner pass from teammate Kiersten Wood. Five minutes into the second half, Banta scored again, as she tipped it in off another penalty corner. Mallory Weisen and Jen Long both got assists for the second goal. And with ten minutes left in the game, Penn State's Allison Scola sealed the win for the Nittany Lions when she put in a rebound off of her teammate's shot. With the 3-0 win, Penn State improved to 7-2 overall, while Penn fell to 2-5 on the season.
Senior goalie Elizabeth Schlossberg had four saves in the match-up.
Up next, the Quakers will travel in search of their third win of the season, taking on Rutgers this Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
