Penn Men's Swimming Improves to Seventh at EISL Championships.

EISL Results - Day Two

Cambridge, Mass. - The Penn men's swimming team improved its position at the 2005 EISL Championships on Friday, climbing into seventh place after the second day of competition.

A pair of relay teams paced the Quakers on Friday. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Devon Carr, Pat Gallagher, Jason McGrath and Chris Perez finished sixth with a time of 6:45.20. Pat Gallagher, Jon Kaufman, Brian Gartner and Kevin Scott helped the 200-yard medley relay teamplace seventh with a finishing time of 1:32.75.

McGrath was Penn's highest individual finisher as he placed eighth in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the pad in 9:25.82. Matt Blaszko finished behind his teammate in ninth with a time of 9:27.53. Pat Maloney placed ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with, finishing in 49.94 seconds. Gallagher finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.83. Kaufman swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.78 seconds, which placed the junior in ninth position.

Heading into the final day of competition Penn has accumulated 455.50 team points. Harvard leads the championship meet with 949.00 points. Saturday will see competition in the 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and200-yard butterfly individual swimming events, as well as the 400-yard freestyle relay event and the 3-meter diving.
