Penn Sixth After First Day of McLaughlin

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - After the first day of competition at the McLaughlin at Bethpage's Red Course, Penn sits in sixth place with a team score of 574. Junior Michael Blodgett shot two rounds of one-under par 69 for a total of 138 to lead the Quakers and put him in a tie for fourth place individually. Host St. John's leads the event with a combined score of 556, while West Florida's Kyle Scott tops the individual leaderboard with a 132.

The Quakers have five golfers participating in the weekend tournament. Senior Dean Merrill is tied for17th place after shooting a two-over 142 on the day. Sophomore Chance Pipitone and junior Bill McCrossan each shot 147 to tie for 45th while senior Michael Kornheiser shot a 150 to tie for 66th place overall.

Play concludes today, with the first groups teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
