Kissimmee, Fla. Sophomore Erin Boyle hit the game-winning single, driving in two runs to help lift the University of Pennsylvania softball team over Toledo, 3-2 this afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games.
The Quakers (1-3) struck first in the top of the second as sophomore Erin Boyle drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to score freshman Christina Khosravi. Toledo tied the score after loading the bases in the bottom of the third inning following a foul out to left field. The Rockets pulled ahead in the bottom of the fifth on a single through the right side.
Penn regained the lead in the top of the sixth as Boyle delivered a two-out single to left center driving in Brandi King and Khosravi to make the score, 3-2. Boyle finished the day 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs batted in.
Toledo rallied during their last at-bat drawing three walks to load the bases with one out. But freshman Ann Ferracane got out of the jam with a strikeout and a fly ball. Ferracane picked up her first collegiate win by tossing two and a third scoreless innings.
The Quakers return to action at the Rebel Spring Games on March 9 when they face Loyola-Chicago at 8:50 a.m. followed by St. Peter’s College at 12:30 p.m.
