PHILADELPHIA The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) 3-0 this afternoon in the Sheraton Invitational. Game scores were 30-17, 30-14, 30-27.
Penn took Game One thanks to a balanced attack. Kathryn Turner, Amy Starosta and Laura Black led the attack, and Kira Campbell and Meredith Laning each had 10 assists.Campbell distributed the ball very well in Game Two with 11 assists. In Game Three, the Quakers could not put away St. Francis. They led the entire game, but saw a seven-point lead shrink to one late in the game. Black and Turner had consecutive kills to push the lead back up to three, then Black and Anna Shlimak had consecutive kills to take the match.
The Quakers dominated the net in the match with 49 kills; Turner, Starosta and Black each had 10 kills.Campbell contributed 25 of Penn’s 42 assists.
Penn will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. against Towson inits final matchof the Sheraton Invitational.
