Penn to bring back an old tradition - Freshman Walk

PHILADELPHIA - In a revival of an old Penn tradition, freshman will gather and then proceed down Locust Walk before entering the stadium and completing a lap around Franklin Field prior to Saturday's game against Lafayette.

The tradition of the "FRESHMAN WALK" is returning to Franklin Field in 2010, as Penn Athletics in conjunction with Penn Alumni and Penn Traditions are responsible for reviving this tradition which has been absent since 1987. The tradition orginally focused on a procession of the Freshman class around Franklin Field. This year tradition will be expanded with the adding of a procession along Locust Walk to Franklin Field, and after the traditional lap around the field, the formation of a "spirit line" composed of The Penn Band and the Freshman Class to welcome the Football team onto the field.

Adam Behrens has agreed to lead the students in the procession down Locust Walk beginning at 6:20PM, which will be led officially by the Penn Band.

The procession precedes the Quakers' home opener against Lafayette which begins at 7 p.m. The defending Ivy League champions seek to win their ninth straight victory and avenge last year's 20-17 overtime defeat at the hands of the Leopards in Easton.
