Penn to Host Strength and Conditioning Clinic

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania's strength and conditioningstaff will host their inaugural Strength and Conditioning Clinic on Saturday, March 5. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be held in the University's brand-new Weiss Pavilion Weight Room inside of Franklin Field.

Conducted by Penn's Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Jim Steel and his staff, the event will also feature special guest instructor Dr. Rob Wagner. A former University of Pennsylvania Strength and Conditioning Coach, Dr. Wagner was a competitive power lifter and Olympic lifter and a six-time national power lifting champion and world champion. During his 20-plus years in sport performance, he has coached numerous All-Americans and professional athletes. Wagner is also a national speaker and author on strength and conditioning, having authored more than 40 articles.

The clinic is open to all coaches who would like to learn proper technique of the basic lifts and sharpen their teaching skills for each lift. This clinic will focus on lifting for all sports. The major lifts that will be covered include squats, cleans, bench press, press, dead lift (both sumo and conventional), and assistance work.

In addition, the Penn staff will discuss the proper programming for your sport, both in season and out of season. They will also cover the optimal exercises for each sport and how to implement them in your team's training.

Come prepared to perform the exercises. The clinic will conclude with a question-and-answer session.
