PHILADELPHIA The University of Pennsylvania has announced its football dates and opponents for the 2007 season. The slate will see Head Coach Al Bagnoli’s team face its usual Ivy League rivals in addition to non-league foes Lafayette, Villanova and, for the first time since 1937, Georgetown.
Game times will be announced at a later date. The 2007 football season will mark the 131st at Penn.
For the second year in a row, the Quakers will open with Patriot League champion Lafayette on Sept. 15. This time, the game will be at Franklin Field, the first of five home games in 2007.
Penn visits cross-city rival Villanova on Sept. 22, its first visit to the Main Line since 2002. The last three games in the series have been decided by a single score, including the last two, which both came down to the final play.
The 51st season of Ivy League football opens with a trip to Dartmouth on Sept. 29. The game will be the 75th meeting between the Quakers and the Big Green.
The month of October starts with an unfamiliar opponent in Georgetown, which visits Franklin Field on Oct. 6. The two teams haven’t met since 1937 and have only played four times before, with Penn holding a 3-0-1 advantage in the series.
Penn visits Columbia on Oct. 13 before returning to Franklin Field for a Homecoming clash with Ivy League co-champion Yale on Oct. 20. A trip to Brown follows on Oct. 27.
The other Ivy League co-champion, archrival Princeton, visits Philadelphia for Family Weekend on Nov. 3. The Quakers will look to avenge their double-overtime loss to the Tigers last year in what will be the 99th meeting between the two.
The final two games of the season will have Penn hitting the road to face perennial power Harvard (Nov. 10) before returning home to battle Cornell for the 114th time on Nov. 17.
