Philadelphia ThePenn men’s lacrosse team will host the 2005 ACC Champion No. 6 Maryland Terrapins on May 7 at Lincoln Financial Field for both teams’ final regular season game. The contest will be the first college lacrosse game held at the home of the 2005 NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles as a kick off for the 2005 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships, which will be held there May 28-30. The game will begin at 5 p.m. and will be live on CN8.
“We are very excited to be able to play in a professional facility like Lincoln Financial Field,” Penn Head Coach Brian Voelker said. “Our guys are looking forward to a great game against a great team in a real championship venue.”
The Quakers are led by tri-captains junior DJ Andrzejewski (Parkton, Md.) and seniors Zandy Reich (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Brian Amen (Northport, N.Y.) and are coming off a 9-8 victory over Loyola on April 23 at Franklin Field. Penn is 2-10 this season, with five of those losses coming by just one goal.
The Terrapins defeated No. 2 Duke, 9-5, last weekend to defend their ACC Championship title. Local natives Xander and Maxwell Ritz (Wayne, Pa.) were instrumental in the team’s success over the Blue Devils with two goals and two assistsprior tobeing named to the All-Tournament team. Junior Bill McGlone (Swarthmore, Pa.) heads back to his hometown as the Terps’ second-leading scorer this season with 25 points. Maryland travels to Philadelphia with an 8-5 overall record.
