Penn Women's Squash Shows Strength at Ivy Scrimmages

New Haven, Conn. - The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team came away with a1-2 record in exhibition play as they faced Dartmouth College, Yale University and Harvard University on Nov. 13-14 in New Haven, Conn. at the Ivy Scrimmages. The Quakers, who finished the 2003-04 season ranked fifth in the nation, were led by freshman Lauralynn Drury and senior Rohini Gupta, who each finished 2-1 for the weekend.

The Red and Blue opened their exhibition matches by defeating Dartmouth, 5-4, on Saturday. Later that day, the Quakers suffered their first loss as they fell, 9-0, to Yale in the semifinals. On the second day of play, Penn was topped by Harvard, 6-3. The Red and Blue finished the scrimmages in fourth place.

In addition toDrury and Gupta, sophomores Paula Pearson, Caitlin Russelland Annie Barrettas well as junior Rhea Bhandare also posted solid performances, finishing the weekend 1-2, 1-2, 1-1 and 1-2, respectively.

The Quakers open the regular season on Nov.20 when they host Cornell at Ringe Courts. The meeting is set for noon.
