Penn Women's Swim Team Beats West Chester in Last Home Meet of the Season, 179-120


Philadelphia - In their final home meet of the season, the University of Pennsylvania women’s swim team defeated West Chester University 179-120. The Quaker women finished the day with seven first place finishes. They were also able to sweep the 100-yard backstroke, the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly.

The Quakers began the meet with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, and never relinquished the lead. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Cammie Villarreal and Maureen Schriver took second and third place respectively for the Quakers.

The women dominated the 100-yard backstroke as Erica Gentilucci, Stephanie Colson and Sarah Bargmann took the top three spots. The women then went on to control the 200-yard breaststroke as Megan Carlin finished in first, followed by Margot Newcomer and Sydney Sher. Carlin also took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.49. Carlin has yet to loose in that event. Finally the Red and Blue were able to take the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly with Katie Stores leading the group in first place, followed by Kristen Kelley and Lauren Weinstein.

In diving, Janis Scanlon finished first in the three-meter event, and was the top Quaker finished in the one-meter event with a second place finish.

The Quaker women return to action Feb. 24-26 at the Ivy League and ECAC Championships.
