Lewisburg, Pa. - The Penn Women’s Swim Team Traveled to Bucknell, to participate in the Bucknell Sprint Invitational on Saturday. The Quakers were led by their freestyle relay teams, which both finished first place. The women ended their day with four first place finishes, and 13 top-three finishes.
Freshman Megan Carlin came to the meet ready to perform, securing five top-three finishes in her first inter-collegiate meet. Carlin started the meet with a third place finish in the 100-yd IM, which she quickly followed with a first place in the 50-yd breaststroke. Carlin was a member of both the 400-yd and 200-yd medley relay teams, which both took second place. The Vineland, N.J. native then finished the afternoon with a third-place finish in the 100-yd breaststroke.
The Quakers showed their strength in the distance swim, as they took both second and third place in the 500-yd freestyle. Sophomore Cammie Villarreal finished that event with a time of 5:04.24, and was quickly followed by fellow sophomore Margot Newcomer. Villarreal also secured a first place finish on the day, taking the 200-yd freestyle. Newcomer also took third place in the 400-yd IM, where she followed fellow sophomore Alison Bretherick, who took second with a time of 4:35.14.
The Quakers return to the pool on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. when they take on both Cornell and Princeton in a dual meet at Sheerr Pool.
