PHILADLEPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team reclaimed the Keystone Classic title on Sunday at The Palestra. Four Quakers won individual titles to give Penn its first Keystone title since 2002.

Andrew Gold, Matt Eveleth, Matt Valenti and Cesar Grajeles won individual titles. It was Valenti's second title and first for the other three.

Gold held on in the third period to earn a riding time point and secure a 3-2 win at 125 lbs. over Virginia’s Anthony Burke. Gold had to major decisions and a decision to earn his spot in the finals.

Juniors Matt Eveleth and Matt Valenti earned co-champions at 133 lbs. Valenti, the No. 1 seed opened the tournament with a technical fall over Jordan Lipp of American and earned two decisions to get to the finals. Eveleth earned a 15-2 major decision over John Triggas and two decisions to make his way to the title round.

At 141 lbs. it was an all Penn final. Grajeles won the match 6-3. The match was tied in the second period, but two escapes by Grajeles in the third and a point for riding time sealed the match. No. 1 seed Cesar Grajales used two major decisions and a decision to make his way to the final. Brett McCurdy, the No. 7 seed, upset Mark Savino of Brown (No. 2 seed) by pinning him in 1:43. He then went on to decision Antwone Floyd of Duke to make his to the final.

In the title match at 157 lbs., Penn’s Gene Zannetti fell to Scott Ervin from Appalachian State, 10-9. Riding time was the deciding factor in the win. Sophomore Lior Zamir took second at 174 lbs. following to No. 1 seed Doug Umbehauer of Rider, In the second period, Zamir accumulated two minutes of riding time and in the third escaped from bottom to take the lead. But an escape and a takedown from Umbehauer titled the scale in his favor.

It was a battle of the first and second seed at 184 lbs. Senior captain Dustin Wiles was pinned by the top seed Josh Glenn of American. Wiles had a pin and a decision heading into the title match. Senior captain Paul Velekei took second at 197 lbs. as well. Velekei fell to top-seed TJ Morrison of Rider, 2-0 in the finals. An escape in the second and riding time were the deciding factors in the match.

Matt Dragon took third at 149 lbs. after earning a medical forfeit over Mike Ashton of Brown. Freshman Neil Cisper took fourth at 184 lbs. Freshman Colin Hitschler picked up a fifth-place finish at 165 lbs. winning by medical default, while classmate Jayson Bowlsby took fifth at 285 lbs. Andrew Valenti took sixth at 125 lbs.

The Quakers accumulated 151.0 points on the day. Virginia took second with 109.5 pints and American was third with 100.5 points. Appalachian State and Boston University finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with 79.5 and 76.5 points. American’s Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov won the ‘Champions of Champions Award.’ Appalachian State’s David Hazell Jr. had the most falls in the fastest time (four in 8:42) and Boston University’s Joh Dacruz had the fastest fall (0:19)
