Petkun Places 16th in All-Around at NCAA Regionals

Durham, N.H. – University of Pennsylvania junior Emily Petkun placed 16th overall in the all-around competition at the NCAA Northeast Regional gymnastics competition, held at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday. Senior Leah Moon placed 40th in the balance beam at the meet.

Petkun, who placed 21st overall in 2004, finished in 34th place on the vault with a score of 9.475, 38th on the uneven bars with a 9.150 and 37th on the floor with a score of 9.600. Her highest finish of the meet came on the balance beam, where Petkun placed 29th with a score of 9.575.

In Moon’s first NCAA Regional appearance, she placed 40th on the balance beam with a score of 9.100. It was the first time in Penn gymnastics history that two members of the squad qualified for the same regional competition.

The Quakers finished the 2005 season with an 11-2 overall dual meet record. They placed fourth at the George Washington Invitational, second at the Towson Invitational and third at the Ivy Classic. The Quakersconcluded the season with a third-place finish at the ECAC Championships.
