PHILADELPHIA - The Philly Hoop Group Classic, a new Thanksgiving Weekend basketball tournament featuring college teams from the East, announced game times for the championship round to be held at The Palestra on Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24.
The Philly Hoop Group Classic will hold afternoon and night sessions both days, with each session featuring two games. Friday’s afternoon schedule features: Howard University vs. Loyola (Md.) College at noon, and Robert Morris University vs. Drexel University at 2 p.m. Friday’s night games include Navy vs. Seton Hall University at 7 p.m., and the University of Pennsylvania vs. the University of Virginia at 9 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule will be based on Friday’s results, with the winners playing each other in the later game of each session. The games are again scheduled for noon, 2 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Sixof the eight championship-round games willbe televised live on CN8, The Comcast Network. Fans can also enjoy The Philly Hoop Group Classic coverage live online at www.CN8.tv and Comcast Digital Cable customers may watch the games ON DEMAND at no charge for up to one week following the broadcast.
“CN8 is dedicated to producing high-quality sports programming and when we got the opportunity to televise the Philly Hoop Group Classic, we jumped on it,” said Jon Gurevitch, vice president ofCN8 Sports. “The ACC, the Big East, and the CAA are all represented, and all eight schools in the tournament are located within CN8’s coverage area. This will be a fantastic event.”
The 2007 exempt tournament will feature eight schools: Drexel University, Howard University, Loyola College (Md.), Navy, Robert Morris University, Seton Hall University, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Virginia.
The televised contests on Friday, Nov. 23, will be from the night session, when Navyplays Seton Hall at 7 p.m. and Pennmeets Virginia at 9 p.m. On Saturday,the entire slate of games will be televised live. (In addition, CN8 will also air the preliminary game featuring Drexel at Virginia on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.)

As part of the Philly Hoop Group Classic, each of the eight teams involved will play two games on campus sites prior to the championship round. Penn will begin its portion of the event by playing at Loyola on Sunday, Nov. 11 at noon. The following Saturday, Nov. 17, the Quakers will host Howard -- led by former longtime Penn assistant coach Gil Jackson -- at The Palestra. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
